Description
What is Pterostilbene?
Pterostilbene is a stilbenoid chemically related to resveratrol. In plants, it serves a defensive phytoalexin role.
Pterostilbene is found in almonds, blueberries, grape leaves and vines and heartwood.
How does Pterostilbene work?
Resveratrol and pterostilbene exhibit many similarities in pharmacological properties, including antioxidant, neuroprotective (improved cognition, treatment of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease and other neurological disorders), anti-cancer, cardioprotective (blood pressure control), analgesic, anti-atherosclerosis, anti-aging, anti-diabetic (blood sugar control), antiinflammatory, and anti-obesity functions.
As an antioxidant pterostilbene is beneficial for the liver, heart, and eyes.
Pterostilbene is about 4 times easier to absorb than resveratrol due to enhanced membrane permeability, bioavailability, and biological potency, which makes it more efficient than resveratrol.
It also has been shown to stay in the organism 7 times longer than resveratrol. The efficiency of pterostilbene in suppressing cancer is approximately 10 times that of resveratrol.
